Early Beginnings (1950)

  • Initiated with the Ethiopian School Leaving Certificate Examination (ESLCE).
  • Aimed to establish standardized national examinations.

Institutional Development (2005)

  • Formation of the National Organization for Examinations (NOE) under the Ministry of Education (MOE).
  • Focused on strengthening examination management and institutional capacity.

Structural Reform (2012)

  • Re-established as the National Educational Assessment and Examination Agency (NEAEA) through Council of Ministers Regulation No. 260/2012.
  • Expanded mandate to include both assessment and examination functions.

Early Grade Reading Assessment(EGRA)

A one-on-one Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) to accurately measure the student’s foundational reading abilities.

Paper and Pencil Testing (PPT)

 Traditional exam setting in Ethiopia’s remote or rural areas, where digital infrastructure is scarce.

Computer-Based Testing (CBT) in Action

EAES is digitizing its examination system with CBT exams for Grade 12. This fully digital environment ensures exam integrity, enhances efficiency, and aligns with global standards for assessment.Students are now participating in computer-based national exams (CBT) as part of Ethiopia’s digital transformation in education.
